Save Pets, Spay and Neuter

Every day in America there is an animal somewhere that is lost or roaming the street, and they end up in shelters across the country and these shelters are now overcrowded. There are many litters born every day because people do not know of the importance of spaying and neutering their animals so this also adds to the shelter population. Shelters are now overcrowded due to people not knowing the real importance of having their pet spayed and neutered. Many animals are in shelters and they ended up there because of careless people and it is not fair to the animals. People need to learn the facts about overcrowded shelters and how many animals get euthanized because of the over population problem, and how many animals die in shelters every year and the real importance of spaying and neutering animals.

According to the American Humane Association in 1997, 64% of the total number of animals that entered shelters were euthanized. Only 17% of cats and dogs were reunited with their owners or adopted that were in animal shelters. Some people do not microchip their animals so when they run away and some owners are not able to find their animals or some of them do not care and the animals get euthanized if they are not found another home when the shelter gets overcrowded. It is a fact that cats are euthanized more in shelters because they do not have any owner identification when found and brought to a shelter. Only a fourth of the animals brought to shelters are actually adopted out by loving families. The people in this country need to learn the staggering statistics of the number of animals dying due to people not spaying and neutering their pets and they need to learn why it is important.

Spaying and neutering not only cuts down on overpopulation of animals it also helps your pet to live a long and healthy life. It is a veterinary procedure that is done quickly and requires minimal hospitalization, and many states have established low-cost spay and neuter programs that make it easier to afford and to find one near you search Low-Cost Spay/Neuter Provider Database. There are many benefits to spaying for example spaying your female animal will prevent breast cancer and your animal will live a longer healthier life. Neutering your male animal will help the aggressive behavior and will prevent your pet from wanting to stray away from home. A male pet not neutered will run away from home and could possibly cause car accidents and get into a fight with another animal because they can be very aggressive. Spaying and neutering also drastically reduces the number of animals on the streets. In the meantime people are not spaying and neutering their pets, there are a lot of unwanted litters being born.

People need to learn the facts about shelters and how to keep them from being overcrowded and why it can be very beneficial for their pet to be spayed or neutered. Overcrowded shelters are very serious because they can only hold a certain amount of animals and when they are full the animals are euthanized because no one wanted them. We need to learn that shelters are overcrowded because there are too many litters being born because people do not know the importance of spaying and neutering. There should be more done to educate new pet owners of the importance of spaying and neutering. If more people are educated there will be fewer animals overpopulating the shelters and more chances of the rest of the shelter animals being adopted.
